Grieving, reading, listening, thinking & writing i Grieving, reading, listening, thinking & writing in the sunshine on my window seat & porch today. This work by @amandascgorman touches on collective grief but what kept coming to mind today was her poetry in @nytopinion in spring of last year after the Uvalde tragedy when school children were gunned down in (another) mass shooting. And here we are again. So many are grieving and hurting in #Nashville #covenantschool

Hymn For The Hurting by Amanda Gorman

Everything hurts,
Our hearts shadowed and strange,
Minds made muddied and mute.
We carry tragedy, terrifying and true.
And yet none of it is new;
We knew it as home,
As horror,
As heritage.
Even our children
Cannot be children,
Cannot be.

Everything hurts.
It’s a hard time to be alive,
And even harder to stay that way.
We’re burdened to live out these days,
While at the same time, blessed to outlive them.

This alarm is how we know
We must be altered —
That we must differ or die,
That we must triumph or try.
Thus while hate cannot be terminated,
It can be transformed
Into a love that lets us live.

May we not just grieve, but give:
May we not just ache, but act;
May our signed right to bear arms
Never blind our sight from shared harm;
May we choose our children over chaos.
May another innocent never be lost.

Maybe everything hurts,
Our hearts shadowed & strange.
But only when everything hurts
May everything change.

⏳Tonight’s fundraising deadline is critically ⏳Tonight’s fundraising deadline is critically important as it gives me the best chance, early in the campaign, to show the strength of our incredible community & network of supporters. Thank you to everyone who has supported my campaign thus far & is considering doing so now. We can achieve our highest aspirations for each other and for our city when we work together! 🥰
💔📫💌❤️Community members and Green Hill 💔📫💌❤️Community members and Green Hills area florists, including @flowermarttn & @accentflowersbrentwood as well @harpeth_hall sixth graders are creating mailbox bows to show love and support to the #covenantschool community. (UPDATE: ordering information in third image has been paused as thousands of orders have come in & the girls need to catch up and get some assistance, stay tuned for them to partner with helpers and potentially resume soon OR stop in or call a participating or your favorite florist.) ❤️🖤
🕯️Please join me and my fellow Metro Council 🕯️Please join me and my fellow Metro Council members, the Mayor’s Office, and a diversity of clergy and elected leaders and musical guests, including Sheryl Crow, Margo Price, and Ketch Secor downtown this afternoon/evening to mourn and honor the lives of the victims and lift up the survivors and families of the Covenant School.

There will be two free parking options from 5:00 to 8:30 PM. No validation is needed for the garage under the Metro Courthouse/City Hall & I have linked to the QR Code for the validation for the private “Public Square Garage” in the comments of my Facebook post.

I would strongly encourage Green Hills area residents to take the @wegotransit #7 bus on Hillsboro Pike to downtown or the #3 on Harding/West End. There is a nice new transit facility in front of Hillsboro High School and across from the Mall at Green Hills. WeGo Central Station where all lines end & begin is just one block from the Public Square.
Yesterday was my son’s birthday. Yesterday I wen Yesterday was my son’s birthday. Yesterday I went to the Woodmont Baptist reunification site to be of service to Covenant School families. Yesterday I listened as #Nashville police thoughtfully planned how to tell parents that their children were dead. Yesterday I heard a mother wail when she was told. Yesterday I was tearful many times over.

Today and tomorrow let us not be quiet. Let us not become inured to gun violence, again. Let ALL of us (left, right, center) vote like our children’s lives depend on it.

We must keep speaking up and demanding policy change. NO ONE needs an assault rifle, for example. To learn more about productive advocacy: @momsdemand @marchforourlives @giffordscourage

This holiday weekend, and throughout May, I’ve had great conversations at farmers markets & festivals about my campaign to serve as vice mayor. Centennial Park was such a happy mix of families & friends relaxing, playing & picnicking on Sunday afternoon. Our parks have so much to offer, and I appreciate folks taking the time to share their thoughts & questions with me! #angieforvicemayor ... See MoreSee Less
